Let’s face it we all have egos, self-confidence and pride. When kept in check these things provide the prospective, determination and ability to do some amazing things.
However, when we make it all about ourselves; then, we lose the opportunities for joy, peace, love and service that only a life lived for Christ can bring.
Jesus in Luke 9:23-25, makes it clear when He said “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?”
How different would my life be when it is no longer all about me?
When it is no longer all about me: Would I be gracious to that person who has tried my last nerve?
When it is no longer all about me: Would I go on that mission trip instead of a vacation?
When it is no longer all about me: Would I give more than my 10% tithes?
How different would my life be if I would take up my cross daily and follow Jesus?
I will sing in the church choir
I will pray for others
I will lead Bible study
And I will proclaim the grace, mercy and goodness of Jesus Christ
I will do all of this and more; because it is not all about me.
